Since leaving the publishing business, she has written extensively for both international and local titles including The UK Guardian and The Daily Mail and has written both children books ( The Princess Pincushion series,) and her debut novel, Plus One, which was published by Pan MacMillan in 2018.

Vanessa Raphaely is currently most well-known as the sole admin and manager of The Village, a community of 30 000 plus highly engaged parents of tweens and teens.

The Village is a much loved and unique community, in that 90 percent of the members read, post or react, every day. Even with such a large community, the tone is uniformly supportive, kind and non judgmental.

Her experience managing this community and creating a safe space for its members, while social media has become overrun with hostility, trolling and judgment, has given her a unique insight into online communities. What works and what doesn’t. The mistakes social media managers makes and the easy interventions which can create harmony and common purpose. She has, as one Villager put it, “changed the face of parenting in South Africa, bringing disparate people together, in a spirit of kindness, care and respect for all.”

She has also a unique insight and perspective on the lifestyle and habits of the affluent, South African family market as she runs regular research through the group into their lifestyles, choices, buying patterns and beliefs.

She also is privy to the reality of raising teens and tweens in SA today as the sharing nature of the group encourages frank and honest feedback on a daily basis.
