Utilising his years of experience & vast knowledge of music, clients now have the opportunity to double their delight by bookings SA’s top party band together with a pumping DJ!

So what is the secret of their success?

As with everything in the music industry, it’s a combination of talent and hard work. Their repertoire is extensive, the talent undeniable and the performance is mesmerising. The band has an incredible presence on stage and Sangoma’s vocal ability never ceases to amaze audiences as he adapts to each and every genre effortlessly.

One of SA’s most prolific and energetic front men, Sangoma has a wealth of experience behind him which comes through at each and every show. Having spent five years with Tokyo Groove and five years prior to that in the music industry, including being the front man for Denim, he has had the opportunity to perform to the crème de la crème both locally and internationally.

As a standard, Tokyo Groove performs as a 7 Piece Band comprising of Sangoma on lead Vocals & Guitar, Bass Guitar, Lead Guitar, Drums, Keyboards and 2 Backing Vocalists, however due to the fluid nature of the band and diversity of their music, the band often adapts their shows to incorporate different musicians band structures (5 Piece ; 7 Piece ; 9 Piece & 12 Piece).

The Corporate Show Band (7 Piece)

Focusing on the Classic Party Tracks from Motown, like September, Lady Soul etc to well known reggae numbers from Bob Marley to the latest Top 40 Hits from artists like The Black Eyed Peas, Sean Kingston etc the music is always accessible and adapted for each event.

The seven piece band fills the stage and adds a phenomenal energy to the performance with two female backing vocalists that bring a certain panache to the experience and truly brings the music to life.

The standard set comprises of 2 party sets but can be adapted to incorporate a chilled dinner set followed by a party set.

Optional – The Golden Band (12 Piece with Full Brass Section)

Take your mind back to the 50’s where everything was LIVE, the bands were impressive, not just because of their music but because of the energy and dynamics of 12 musicians live on stage, interacting with their instruments and each other to create real, soulful music and this is your Golden Band.

Tokyo Groove adds an additional 5 Brass players to their already existing 7 Piece band and brings all the classic motown songs to life whilst giving a new dimension to your newer contemporary tracks (Black Eyed Peas, Michael Jackson etc).

The standard set comprises of 2 party sets. (Bookings must have advance notice)

Optional – The Corporate Show Band (5 Piece)

For the more intimate events, Tokyo Groove performs as a five piece band (without the backing vocalists) which includes lead guitar, a keyboard player, a drummer and a bass player.

The music is still based on the same selection of cross-cultural songs that span over decades and is perfect for both corporate clients and clubs alike, it’s simply the size of the band that is reduced to allow for the smaller events where space can be limited.

Optional – The 9 Piece Band (with 2 Brass Players )

A slightly smaller version of The Golden Band, Tokyo Groove – Corporate Entertainers adds an additional 2 Brass players to their already existing 7 Piece band bringing in the live brass element which truly compliments the classic motown songs they are renowned for.

Whilst the group’s repertoire stays the same, the bands presence on stage simply jumps to another level of sophistication. The standard set comprises of 2 party sets. (Bookings must have advance notice)

Tokyo Groove’s repetoire is so extensive that rather than listing pages and pages on the website we have attached a full list for download and viewing purposes (see top of page). In addition to this, the band prides themselves on constantly adding new songs to their repetoire, so the list is continously changing!

However, for those of you who are not familiar with the band, an idea of their Corporate Set would include classic tracks like My Girl ; September ; Hope Joanna ; Africa, I Love To Truck, Lady Soul etc as well as popular songs like Sounds Of Freeom ; Sexy Lady and Burn Up through to the bands signature carribean sound with Hot, Hot Hot, Bob Marley Medley and I’ll Make You Sweat as well as popular local songs from legends like Brenda Fassie, Johnny Clegg and Sipho Hotstix.

Tokyo Groove has to be one of the few corporate bands that, when the event and audience require a slightly different feel, can throw in some jazz numbers and rock tracks includng artists like The Killers, REM and Nirvana as well as a stunning acoustic set.
