My rant ……. “You may offend someone!” – Sam Harrop

9.30_intern_building_resume_postWhy does everyone panic and worry about offending someone?

Before you say something, celebrate a special date or publish something on social media do you worry about offending someone?

So what exactly does offended mean? Offended is defined as to feel resentful or annoyed, typically as a result of a perceived insult

Let’s work backwards because let’s be honest most people that are easily “offended” are a little backward.

Perceive can be defined as interpret or regard someone or something in a particular way. It can also be described as view. As you can see whether someone thinks it is an insult or not is their baggage not yours!

Now let’s move onto resentful, feeling or expressing bitterness or indignation at having been treated unfairly. This is fantastic. In other words this is directed towards you by them expressing bitterness or indignation. I don’t know about you but if someone is offended about something I have chosen to say, celebrate or publish I’m OK with that.

Annoyed, wow they are going to feel annoyed. Quantify that for me! A bur in my underpants is annoying a three year old having a tantrum is annoying. Seriously? Annoyed……..

You can’t offend someone, they CHOOSE to be offended. Yes them, they choose to be offended. You are responsible for your feelings and the actions you do or don’t take and so is everyone else including this “someone” who you may offend!

You may offend someone is something that “People Pleasers” worry about. It is these people who will say one thing to your face and another behind your back. It’s these people that serve their interests and agendas not yours. Like a ineffective lying politicians who stands for one thing during an election and another in office. They can not be trusted.

This is where I stand. I am passionate, I call things as I see them and I want to make a difference.

Unfortunately when you try and please everybody you please nobody. Stand up for what you believe. Stand up for your family, your friends, your country.

Now the choice is yours because if you are offended I’m ok with that.
