I hate these expressions, “there is nothing to fear but fear itself” and “fear = false evidence appearing real”. Honestly, what a load.
Anyone who says that fear is not real either has never experience fear or has a rather jaded sense of reality. Truth is that fear is real. Fear is your own mental and physical safety mechanisms let you know you are about to venture into the unknown. Without fear, human being would be resigned to committing mental suicide almost daily.
I still vividly remember the fear I felt the first time I started my own business. I remember the fear I felt when it failed. I remember the fear I felt the first time I stepped on the stage to deliver my first public speech. I remember the fear I felt when I was booed off. I remember the fear I felt when my son was born. I remember wondering if I would be half the father my dad was. I remember the fear I felt the first (and thankfully last time) I stared down the barrel of a pistol and looked deep into the bullet that would later almost kill me. Fear is not only real but – contrary to modern day propaganda – also necessary.
What is necessary for us to realise our true potential is not to pretend that fear isn’t real. It is rather that we must make the conscious decision to LEAVE FEAR BEHIND. We can ponder our options, seek guidance and take advise from those wiser than us but when the critical moment arrives, we must take the conscious decision to leave fear behind.
