LET HIM OR HER PICK THE PLACE (KIND OF)
Offer up some suggestions and let him/her pick. If she/he doesn’t care, it’s on you, but be careful and anticipate his/her preferences. You don’t want to bring a vegetarian to a steakhouse. On the other hand, if he/she chooses the place, don’t forget to compliment him/her on the choice.
WHEN IT COMES TO ALCOHOL, FOLLOW THE LEAD
Let your boss order first. If he/she orders a drink, then feel free to order one, too. If not, it’s best to abstain.
TURN YOUR PHONE OFF
Now is not the time to be checking your incoming email or sending a text. Even a glance at your phone implies that you’ve got something more important to do.
HANDLE THE BILL GRACEFULLY
When the bill arrives, be nimble and reach for it swiftly, without breaking eye contact or disrupting your conversation. If your boss insists on paying (which he/she most likely will do), let him/her and be gracious about it.
