Du Preez key to Boks going far – Nick Mallett

b491c5c179cc40d7876752a7c6839ffcCape Town – Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett says scrumhalf Fourie du Preez is vital to South Africa’s cause in this year’s Rugby World Cup.

Du Preez captained the Boks to a 34-16 win over Scotland in Newcastle on Saturday.

The veteran scrumhalf again impressed with his decision-making and sound tactical game.

“Like any great scrumhalf, Fourie du Preez scans before he gets his hands on the ball, so when he gets to a ruck his head is already turning to assess the options, and by the time he gets his hands on the ball he’s got a clear understanding of which side he’s going to go and who he’s going to play…” Mallett said in the SuperSport studio after the game.

“He is calm and controlled, he scans for the best options and his passing skills are so good that he can play a number of different options. He is key to South Africa going a long way in this tournament.”

The Boks next tackle the USA at London’s Olympic Park stadium on Wednesday to conclude their Pool B assignments (kick-off 17:45 SA time).
