Bongani Nxumalo works as a live performer / entertainer as well works as a voice over artists and does MC work for major corporate functions which include the likes of SAB Breweries, Standard Bank South Africa; Miss Soweto 2006, TWIB (Technology for women in Business), Joburg Day and South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) 2007.
Bongani was born in Kwa Zulu Natal and moved to Johannesburg at age 15.
Bongani discovered his singing talent in church, singing with a quartet comprising him and three girls. His need follow his one true love – Music resulted in him recording an album in which he was featured as a performer with the then Metro FM DJ Bob Mabena, Produced by an Oscar winning producer and engineer, Marvin W. Moses.
He went on to record his own Kwaito album a year later under an independent label. BMG records distributed the album, which was not successful in the South African music industry. He then joined a karaoke outfit called the ‘Blue Alligator’, singing at corporate functions, weddings and private gigs.
Bongani auditioned among 5000 best SA singers and was signed up for the world acclaimed Disney Theatrical, “The Lion King” in Hollywood (USA), in 2000 where he performed as a singer and actor for three years. He then moved to join the German Version Der Koenig Der Loewen in Hamburg for a year.
Whilst overseas, Bongani braced the stage with some the world’s greatest Musos, Hugh Masekela, Jonathan Butler, Kirk Franklin, Donnie Mcklurckin, just to name a few. Bongani also performed at the Bambi awards at the Hafen Theater in Hamburg and he also appeared as a guest performer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno at CBS studios.
At the end of 2005, Bongani moved back to South Africa, to pursue his singing career in music, at which point he joined Highveld Stereo. Back at home, Bongani has appeared as guest performer on SABC’s Ezimtoti, Felicia Mabuza Suttle show and Noot Ver Noot. Further to his astonishing work, Bongani has won numerous awards including: Nominee Highveld raw recruits (2005), Winner of the people magazine best radio new comer (2006), Nominee for the Mail and Guardian 100 leaders of tomorrow (Media-2006). He has real passion for music, and is an accomplished singer/song-writer with a strong theatrical background. His music includes a wide range including adult contemporary, R&B, reggae, love songs, party music from the 60’s and 70’s, as well as middle of the road and pop.
