New Award for Chris Gibbons – 2013 – Toastmasters Southern Africa Communication and Leadership Award
New Keynote for Chris Gibbons – Leadership, Language, Communication and Power.
It covers how leaders communicate, what an analysis of their language reveals about them, and how some become addicted to power. It has specific reference to leadership in the South African context and incorporates Chris’s interactions with global leaders like Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher.
Of particular value to conference organisers is his ability to handle a live audience asking tough questions of panellists. He also brings his extensive business experience to bear in these circumstances; his own comments and questions add depth and context to the event. As a broadcast professional, Chris always has one eye on the clock, which ensures that the conference runs to time.
Chris edits Acumen, the recently established magazine of the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria. It’s a 96-page publication about business and strategy that has already gained considerable traction in the market place. As well as the distinguished members of GIBS’ faculty, led by its dean, Professor Nick Binedell, Acumen has featured writers like John Carlin (Invictus), Richard Dowden (Royal African Society), Mzukisi Qobo (Univ. of Pretoria), Victor Dlamini, and Gus Silber. Pulitzer-prize winning photographer Greg Marinovich (The Bang Bang Club) has published two photo essays in the magazine.
With an interest in radio that goes back more than 40 years to when he was 16, Chris also maintains an on-air presence via the Morning Market Report on Radio Algoa FM (weekdays, 07.15).
Previously, he presented The Mid Day Report for Gauteng’s Talk Radio 702 and 567 Cape Talk in the Western Cape,
Chris has received a number of awards:
