Billy Selekane

Billy Selekane is a native of Tembisa, a township on the East Rand very close to Johannesburg International Airport. Through some serious hard work, a big dream, a score of mentors and very positive and inspired attitude, Billy Selekane now owns and runs his own Motivational Training, Leadership/Management Development,  Strategy Formulation and Implementation business, with an International foot print in London, where he has carved out a partnership with MaPS UK (Motivation and Personal Success) headed by Albert Smith and EYS (Education and Youth Services) with more than 40 Learning Centres around the UK, headed up by Richard Atkinson, Yvonne Atkinson and Neil Beaty.

Billy Selekane’s focus is on personal organizational transformation and inspiring both individuals and organizations to want to be the best that they can be and to offer them the means of achieving that altered status. Billy’s initial focus was South Africa and SADEC but with organic growth he now plays in the global market.
Billy Selekane uses his motivational techniques which he has learned through his interaction with books from a host of other motivational speakers; strategists; exceptional business leaders (commercial and social); ordinary people who have done extra-ordinary things and put their names in our memories; and that young man or women who wakes up in Africa with a hope and faith of being the best that they believe they were born to be.

One of Billy Selekane’s many personal goals was to have read thousand (1000) books by the end of 2003. Billy didn’t reach that goal but increased his knowledge base by going above 600. He is very passionate about being a South African first and being an African second.

Billy Selekane is currently researching and will be talking and writing about “Compassionate Capitalism”, which is a concept he believes will give Africa an opportunity to play a very direct and meaningful role in the Global Economy.

Billy Selekane’s core Philosophy is that he believes that the manifestation of Purpose is the true meaning and core to success. He believes that each individual was born with Greatness inside of them and that as soon as they pursue their Purpose single-mindedly they will be truly successful and fulfilled.

Billy believes that we are the creators and destroyers of our own lives.  If only people took some time to listen to their internal selves, their environment around them and the universe at large, they would gain greater insight on how they should approach life and live their lives.

“Most people go through different types of experiences and these experiences have profound effects on their lives, but still they do not learn the fundamental lessons that they should learn from these experiences.  People grow and become better by making sure that their lives today are lived better, with more courage, integrity and humility than yesterday.  I also believe that as people - regardless of the standing that we hold in life - we should be humble and if we are not, learn to be so. It is from pure humility that we are able to listen to others and thereby learn from them, and as a result, learn from the universe itself”, says Billy.

“I believe that life is what you make it out to be.  Whatever you want from the world, you will get.  All the things that you want are available and are everywhere around you, you just need to believe that they are also yours and that you could have them.  This requires a lot of attitude change from you.  If you still have the mentality that life is difficult and that it will remain this way, you will definitely not get anywhere in life and you will lose out on a great life that is awaiting you” he adds.

While only 40 years of age, Billy knows as well as anyone the insurmountable challenges South Africans have gone through and still go through today. He grew up in a township outside of Johannesburg where he still lives, from where many people think that nothing good can emerge. But through hard work, determination, a positive attitude, and the right mentors, today Billy runs my own company and is gaining growing notoriety as a motivational speaker.
In his work, Billy Selekane emphasizes the importance of dreaming big and overcoming destructive negative attitudes.  He has found that the greatest challenge facing many people today is the simple understanding that the world owes us nothing, and that we only get what we ask from the world.
Billy Selekane is a keen classical music collector; he creates and directs productions for corporates; he loves the theatre; is a food lover and cooks for leisure; he has reached a sifu level (Kung-fu Master) in his study of the Chinese martial arts called Chi Tsung (a style incepted in Taiwan); he is an amateur diver and a keen water sports enthusiast.  He is a collector of small things “statues, models etc” and he loves travelling.
