Ed Jordan
S.A.M.A. award winning artist Ed Jordan has been at the forefront of the South African entertainment scene for 20 years. He is energetic, dynamic and passionate about everything he does, be it Music, T.V. or Radio. Schooled at St.Johns Prep in Johannesburg and then at Bishops in Cape Town, he went on to complete an Honours Degree in Drama at W.I.T.S. University. During his final year, he Co-Presented "FAST FORWARD", a music video program for the S.A.B.C.
Completing Drama School in 1990, Ed Jordan acted in numerous films, including "THE POWER OF ONE". He also performed in his first stage production "A SLICE OF SATURDAY NIGHT" for Pieter Torien. 1991 saw the release of his first single "DREAM" of the “FLY TO ME’ album, which went straight to NO 1 on the S.A. Charts.
Ed Jordan has supported many International Acts on their South African tours, including CROWDED HOUSE, BRYAN FERRY, HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH and RONAN KEATING. His second studio album "HEAR ME HOWLING" was released in 1996 winning him a S.A.M.A. It featured the smash hit "ALWAYS" which twelve years later is still one of the most requested songs at South African weddings. His third CD "CRAZY" featured the hits "CRAZY", "YOUR MAN", "TO HAVE AND TO HOLD" and "WHERE DID I GO WRONG".
When 94.7 Highveld Stereo launched as a new station in 1995, Ed Jordan produced their new Jingle Package with fellow songwriter Lionel Bastos. He went on to work with Jeremy Mansfield, writing and producing music sketches for "THE RUDE AWAKENING" Breakfast Show. He produced two comedy albums for Mansfield and performed sell out shows with him. His classic original carol "AFRICAN CHRISTMAS" reached Gold Single status after its release in 1998 and is now sung by school children and in churches all across the country.
Ed Jordan has worked with artist WILLIAM KENTRIDGE, writing and producing the score for the award winning film "MONUMENT" as well as producing the music for the internationally acclaimed play "WOYZECH ON THE HIGHVELD" which has toured all over the world. Ed Jordan has also worked with South African director DARRYL ROODT, acting in, writing and performing the theme song for his film "TO THE DEATH".
During the 90's, Ed Jordan wrote and played keyboards for many South African acts, including WENDY OLDFIELD, T.K. THE RASTA REBELS and MANGO GROOVE. In 1999 he co-wrote the musical "LOVE CRIME AND JOHANNESBURG" with MALCOLM PURKEY and the cast, enjoying a successful run at the Market Theatre. Ed Jordan has performed all over the world from London to Hong Kong as well as touring Taiwan. One of his many highlights was performing in front of a crowd of 35 000 people for NELSON MANDELA and PRINCE CHARLES for the PRINCES TRUST.
In the late 90's he joined M-net's hugely popular T.V. show, "SUPER SATURDAY" playing the piano, writing and singing satirical songs, live, every Saturday morning. In 1999/2000 he co-presented "BIG CITY" with Themba Ndaba for M-Net, a magazine program that billed Jo'burg, Cape Town and Durban against each other.
Ed Jordan was one of the three judges for "COCA COLA POPSTARS" on S.A.B.C.3 in 2002. A televised cross-country talent search .The end result was the group "101"who went on to have a GOLD Debut Album. Along with Chi Chi Letswalo, Ed Jordan presented 28 episodes of "THE WEDDING SHOW" for S.A.B.C. 3.The program celebrated South Africa's diverse cultures, documenting weddings across the board from Hindu, Muslim and Chinese Christian, to Ndebele, Venda and Zulu Traditional. Following the success of "THE WEDDING SHOW", Ed released his 4th solo Album, "FOR ALWAYS" featuring the hit single "GODDESS".
Over the years, Ed Jordan has written, recorded and/or produced music for a number of major T.V. commercials. Recent ones include Sunsilk, Pick' n Pay, Nestle and Kellogs. Ed Jordan specialises in writing and producing corporate music for big and small South African companies, combining Western and African styles resulting in an easily accessible Corporate Song or Anthem. He marries this with a motivational talk on "THE POWER OF SONG" and an inter-active team-building session where he teaches the song to the staff of the company. He has done this successfully for S.A.B, NEDCOR, ABSA, K.P.M.G., MICROSOFT and THE SPRINGBOK RUGBY TEAM.
Ed Jordan is often booked as an M.C. or Facilitator for corporate events. From formal evenings to week-long conferences, he is able to adapt to whatever is required by the client. Together with Alan Glass, Ed wrote, recorded and produced the platinum selling "BEAUTIFUL CREATURES" in 2004, a CD aimed at children from 2 to 8 yrs and their parents alike. The “BEAUTIFUL CREATURES” range now boasts six titles, a clothing range and a musical in production.
In February 2005, Ed Jordan joined Johannesburg’s KAYA F.M. 95.9 as co-host on the BREAKFAST SHOW. He spent the next two and a half years there and saw the listener-ship figures break the million-mark.
POSITIVE is a Sun International initiative that raises awareness of H.I.V. and Aids in South Africa. Ed Jordan has been part of this charity since it’s inception in 2006 as it’s “Music Ambassador”. POSITIVE ROCKS is an annual event celebrating ART, MUSIC, FOOD and FASHION. Ed Jordan is the musical director of this event and has seen the likes of SEAL and JOHN LEGEND perform for this worthy cause. 2007 saw Ed Jordan as presenter for DEAL OR NO DEAL SOUTH AFRICA. The show was such a success it’s now in it’s second season. “TONIGHT”, Ed Jordan’s fifth studio album is in stores now and features the hits “Tonight’, ”I’ve got your number” and the classic, “Two Strangers”.
