The world of motivational speaking comes under comic scrutiny as popular zany comedian Aaron McIlroy takes a slanted view of the new-age quick-fix positivity in his musical comedy THE LOSER.
Placing the focus squarely on humor through characterization, McIlroy takes a skewed squiz at the world of motivational speaking as he introduces a host of unusual and eccentric individuals allowing him to take the mickey out of this genre in a variety of angles.
Directed by vita-award winning actress Sue Montregge, "THE LOSER" is packed with high energy take-offs of songs featuring the music of Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Shel Silverstein, Tom Waits, Lou Vega and a range of Elvis tunes, all performed by means of the different personae. The audience is introduced to Truscot Price, the "world-renowned and unconventional" motivational speaker whose magnetic appeal and positivity are contradicted by his offbeat leaps in logic and his unfortunate tragi-comic past.
His psychologist and the narrator of the story, Preston Blackwood Smythe, questions his mental health and is confounded by Truscot's ability to reform even the most bizarre of cases. The audience is introduced to an "unbelievable" line-up of celebrities and strange individuals who attribute their questionable journey of self discovery to Truscot.
THE LOSER is a musical comedy which provides light relief to the more serious side of motivational speaking and the affects it has had on the lives of various characters, interspersed with some really good rock 'n roll music, the show is a must see for anyone needing a good laugh and a thoroughly enjoyable evening's entertainment.

THE STAND UP

Funnyman Aaron McIlroy’s latest stage comedy is co-written and directed by Susan Monteregge.  “ THE STAND UP “ is an all new one man show featuring the inimitable Aaron casting his later beam gaze on the why’s , wherefore’s and where-with-all’s of stage comedy.

One of South Africa’s most popular entertainers , with a string of block busters under his belt ( THE LOSER , MR PERSONALITY , MY COUSIN BROTHER and most recently , the multi-award winning DEFENDING THE PLANET ), Aaron is now set to put the whole comic genre under the microscope.
Stand by for aching abs and tears of mirth as our expert presents the entire spectrum of comics, from the amateur wanna- be to the fully fledged MC.

While Aaron’s comedy style is typically character driven, there is always an element of social satire beneath the surface.  Then of course there is also that unpredictable edge, an over the top element in his performance style that single handedly proclaims theatre to be an extreme sport.

The new script introduces a clutch of new characters into the McIlroy gallery, but devotees need not fear, a number of old favorites get a look in – not least the ubiquitous Vee Jay – who appears as the owner of a seedy comedy club !!

Maintaining his winning formula of comedy with music, this new show is set to take the corporate world by storm.

THE LOSER

The show features local Durban comedian Aaron McIlroy.
The show is a musical comedy and the duration is 50 minutes.

Aaron McIlroy has a strong background in musical theatre having performed in shows such as “ Grease “ and “ Good Vibrations “ , before deciding to join forces with his wife Lisa Bobbert.  Together they wrote , starred in and produced hit shows such as “ Sex, Bugs and rock and roll “ , “ The Revenge of the pink panties “ and “ Belly-Laughs “.
It was during Lisa’s pregnancy that Aaron decided to also offer the option of a solo show and “The Loser “was the result.  The show is a hysterical send up of motivational speakers with Aaron portraying motivational speaker TRUSCOTT PRICE.  Truscott takes the stage (with the customary slogan and flip chart !!) and introduces himself to the audience.  Aaron then proceeds to introduce various “loser type“characters who attempt to explain to the audience how Truscott changed their lives ( all characters portrayed by Aaron ).
These characters include “ Rocky “ the body-builder from Umbilo , Seamus O Shea – the one arm Irish river dancer and “ Reggie “  - the Durban Indian.

The show is a combination of comedy and music and is extremely inter-active – the show can be used as evening entertainment or as part of a team-building session.

Move over Masters Open contenders, and big league golfers. Aaron McIlroy, South Africa’s Master of Mirth, is taking to the greens in his all-new, one-man, laugh-a-line stage comedy, The Golfer.

Co-written and directed by Steven Stead, McIlroy’s new show is set to send the ball whizzing into orbit with a series of sketches unveiling life on and off the course. First and last in the line-up is Aaron’s alter ego, Truscott Price, that motivational guru of The Loser fame. Truscott now makes a major comeback as a sports psychologist… and The Secret has nothing on him.

We also get to meet the archetypal golf widow, an expert in bedroom golf; the spandex-clad, fashionista, previewing his custom-made range for his A-list clientele; and the real-estate power pitcher with a hotline to the latest in politically correct golfing estates.
